Description
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations. Serves as a Natural Resources Specialist supporting Nellis Air Force Base (NAFB), the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR), and Creech Air Force Base (CAFB). Primary responsibility is to support the CEMML team with project support for a variety of office and field projects that include flora and fauna tasks, botany focus preferred. These field tasks may include vegetation classification, habitat restoration, rare plant surveys, burrowing owl monitoring, small mammal surveys, bat surveys, avian surveys, herpetofauna surveys, and other surveys as assigned. Office tasks may include equipment/vehicle maintenance, printing reports, preparing field equipment, scheduling/planning, and coordinating report delivery. Beginning Monday, August 16, 2021, Colorado State University has mandated vaccinations against COVID-19. Faculty and staff are required to submit their vaccine status or declare an exemption.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Bachelors of Science in a natural resource field 2 years of field experience working on natural resource projects Ability to work weekends and holidays Ability to perform strenuous fieldwork including, but not limited to: walking up to 10 miles, carrying a loaded pack (field equipment, safety gear, water, etc), traversing rough terrain, working in a desert environment, and working in extremely remote areas with no services Must be legally authorized to work in the United States by proposed start date. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date. Preferred Qualifications: More than 2 years of experience conducting fieldwork Experience with vegetation monitoring protocols Experience using dichotomous keys Experience identifying wild animals and/or plants Experience handling wildlife Experience working with herpetofauna Experience working with avifauna Experience working in the Mojave/Great Basin ecoregions Experience writing technical reports Experience working with ArcGIS and ArcMap Experience working on a military installation Experience working at Nellis Air Force Base, Creech Air Force Base, or the Nevada Test and Training Range Experience with 4WD and offroad driving.
