The Opportunity:

As the Native American Outreach Coordinator, you will serve as a lead contact for Native American undergraduate recruitment. You will also be responsible for independently coordinating and managing all youth recruitment activities, relationship building, and communication, while also supporting campus youth outreach camps, pathway programs and First year orientation, to increase Native American student enrollment and their college transition. Additionally, you will aid in departmental communications and external image.

This position requires strong leadership, attention to detail, positive role modeling, public presentation, ability to build strong relationships with Native American youth, tribal communities and educational institutions and partnerships.


Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license.

  • Demonstrates understanding of Native American history, cultural practices, and other factors that impact Native American adolescent college pathways, preparation, and enrollment.

  • Experience in presenting to and working with Native American adolescents and communities.

  • Computer software skills, including the ability to use office software, such as databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and design software (e.g. Photoshop, Adobe products, Canva).

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of policies and procedures in a complex academic institution or similar complex organization.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of factors impacting and/or interacting with multi-cultural and/or underrepresented students’ college experiences (i.e., first-generation students, student life, academics, retention issues).

  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to pass a background check for work with minors.

  • Ability to travel and work weekends and evenings.

  • Ability to create, draft, edit, and maintaining various mediums (e.g. advertisements, newsletters, web context)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in planning, evaluating, and facilitating successful Native American youth outreach programs.

  • Demonstrates understanding of Native American history, cultural practices, and other factors that impact Native American adolescent college pathways, preparation, and enrollment.

  • Ability to work with and mentor students and relate to other audiences including parents, faculty, staff, and administrators.

Monthly Salary: $4,061.90 - $4,569.63 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
