NanoFabrication Director of Engineering

The NanoFabrication Director of Engineering will oversee the 2,000 sq. ft NanoFab operation & maintenance research facility at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Collaborate with the Faculty Director of NanoFab to maintain efficient and sustained cleanroom operations with the goal of maximizing the cleanroom tool up time. Oversee the daily operations of the lab, manage budget, track usage and charges for instruments in the facility and supervise staff at the lab. Plan and execute preventative, regular maintenance through the operators, NanoFab staff, contractors, and equipment vendors, and maintain compliance with federal and local authorities.

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field is required
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in a related area Doctoral Degree in a related area
Required Experience:
7+ years experience in a semiconductor fabrication facility as an engineer, supervision, managing budgets, or other related experience
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
General device design and fabrication knowledge (e.g., MEMS, microfluidics, etc). Strong technical experience in standard micro and nano-fabrication processes used for electronic, physical, and mechanical device fabrication. In-depth knowledge of managing laboratory-scale processes required for successful state-of-the-art fabrication, including thin-film deposition, electron-beam lithography, photolithography, back-end processing, and reactive ion etching. In-depth understanding of facilities that support the operation of a cleanroom. Excellent interpersonal skills, prior supervisory experience, and strong communications skills are needed. The NanoFab Director of Engineering should be able to communicate clearly with lab users, other team members, other departments of the university, and vendors. The NanoFab Director of Engineering must be able to work in the cleanroom and chemical laboratory environments and is also expected to work with compressed gases, acids, solvents, vacuum pump oils, and other chemicals.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal skills and strong (verbal and written) communications skills to communicate clearly with lab users, other team members, university departments, and vendors. The NanoFab Director of Engineering must also demonstrate excellent analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills organizational skills, ability to work with frequent interruptions, and ability to work with minimal supervision. Knowledge of safety and working procedures with hazardous gases and chemicals. Ability to adapt to a flexible and fast-changing environment (this includes studying and learning unfamiliar techniques, tools, and applications quickly and independently).

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $150,000.00 to USD $200,000.00.
