Position Description

Bloomsburg University's Department of Music seeks applicants for temporary faculty positions (full-time one semester, part-time one semester or part-time academic year) as needs arise. Bloomsburg University's Division of Music exists within the framework the College of Liberal Arts, offering a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in music, including three tracks of concentration: Music Education, Audio/Video Recording, and Liberal Arts, with additional opportunities to pursue an MBA. Examples of Duties

Based on the specific needs of the department at the time of appointment, a successful applicant must be qualified to teach introductory and/or upper-level courses in music. Possible assignments include: applied studio for one or more of the following instruments predicated upon Department need and applicant qualifications:

  •  Oboe
  •  Clarinet
  •  Saxophone
  •  Bassoon
  •  French Horn
  •  Trumpet
  •  Trombone
  •  Tuba
  •  Euphonium
  •  Cello
  •  String Bass
  •  Piano


Qualifying Experience / Education

Minimum Requirements:

  • Earned bachelor’s degree AND 15 semester hours of graduate credit in Music from an accredited institution OR appropriate professional experience 
  • Performance-level proficiency in applied teaching area
  • Demonstrated competence in teaching and/or relevant music teaching experience. 
  • Academic specialization, prior teaching experience, and/or prior professional experience relevant to course assignment needs of the department at the time of the appointment
  • The ability to work collegially within a liberal art setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree
  • College-level teaching experience 
  • Experience with classroom technology and online student grading database systems
  • Profile as an active teacher (classroom or studio)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations

Finalist(s) for these positions must communicate well and successfully complete an interview process as judged by the department faculty.
  
Recommendation for hiring is needed from a majority of the regular, full-time department faculty.
 
Prior to a final offer of employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and other credential verification, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance and criminal background.
