Job Description:

Iowa State University is seeking a Museum Security and Education Program Assistant. This position reports to the Curator of Education for the University Museums. It has high visibility for the Brunnier Art Museum, and reflects the University Museums and Iowa State University’s character and strategic plan. This position greets the public and acts as primary contact for and provides assistance to callers, visitors, speakers, and artists in the Brunnier Art Museum and other University Museums facilities as needed. Provide a high level of visitor service and museum security; clean and maintain gallery spaces and assist in exhibit installations. The ideal candidate will have an excellent attention to detail and be able to design, produce and install vinyl. This position provides thousands of Iowa State University students, faculty, and staff instruction in visual literacy through tours, programs, and workshops, allowing participants in all fields of study to better meet the interpretive and communicative challenges of their respective disciplines. Responsibilities will be to lead programming and produce interpretive materials across University Museums’ locations and coordinate scheduling of program requests and speakers. Collaborate with the Curator of Education in the development, implementation, and evaluation of innovative programs, resources, and tours to further interpret exhibitions. This position will take a lead role in organizing and developing training for the docent corps. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts, visually, orally and in writing, to groups and individuals; and will be able to interact professionally with a diverse range of visitors. The candidate will also have the ability to present a positive image and provide strong public relations to visitors; learn new skill sets; have excellent organizational skills; plan and implement innovative education programs; work independently and responsibly to complete tasks; and identify new goals, challenges, and solutions in a proactive manner. This position requires a flexible schedule, and candidate must work most weekends and occasional evenings.
