Position Information

The UCR ARTS Preparator is responsible for assisting with all aspects of preparation and production of UCR ARTS exhibitions. The position will work under the direction of the Senior Preparator and will work closely with others to prepare physical and conceptual designs for contemporary and historical art and interactive exhibitions.

The full salary range for the Museum Preparator is $17.56 - $20.25 per hour. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $17.56 - $18.86 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

As a university employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Record of efficient performance in installing fine art exhibits under strict timelines with close attention to detail, or similar activity.
Ability to function independently and take responsibility fo results.
Knowledge/practice in packing/shipping/receiving/condition reporting and care of a variety of fine arts objects and materials.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawing and plans for fabrication.
Ability to move and lift at least 60lbs.
Knowledge of contemporary museum design, practices and standards.
Ability to work in small, confined spaces and at heights on lifts and ladders for extended periods.
Knowledge of digital media installation techniques for projectors, televisions, audio installations, and lighting.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills applicable to a deadline oriented, creative, and academic atmosphere.
Computer proficiency. Ability to use Microsoft Office suite of products.
Knowledge/practice in packing/shipping, receiving, and care of a variety of fine arts objects and materials


Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of shop safety procedures, tool maintenance, and inventory management.

Skills in the use of power and hand tools used in the fabrication of exhibition furniture. (miter saw, table saw, panel saw, etc.)

Knowledge/practice of materials used in preparation and care of works on paper and photographic materials.
