Pay Range Information
Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

Position Summary Information


Job Description Summary
The Part-Time Museum Assistant provides support to visitor services at Chapman University’s Hilbert Museum of California Art. This staff member facilitates training for, coordinates and schedules volunteer museum docents. The PT Museum Assistant also assists with general office duties as assigned, which may include helping with visitor check-in and assisting visitors in the galleries, helping to schedule museum tours for groups, and general assistance as assigned in executing policies and procedures that enable the Hilbert Museum to fulfill its mission and organizational needs.
Responsibilities
DOCENT SERVICES
  • Facilitates training for, coordinates and schedules volunteer docents; keeps track of volunteer hours. Updates Docent Handbook and training as needed.

VISITOR AND FRONT DESK SERVICES
  • Assists with staffing the museum front desk as needed or assigned.
  • Greet visitors and welcome them to the museum, as assigned.
  • Assist with other functions at the front desk, including answering phones, answering general questions about the museum, etc. as assigned.
  • Help maintain clean appearance of front desk/lobby area.
  • Help schedule tours of the museum, as assigned. Assist with museum special events as required.
  • Train as needed to perform daily duties.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in relevant field such as art, humanities, education, communication
  • Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to foster effective relationships and work with a diverse group of individuals from within and outside the university community
  • Demonstrated organizational and task management skills
  • Dependability, flexibility, and adaptability to work in a small department
  • Must be able to remain calm in stressful situations and help resolve customer complaints with tact and courtesy
  • Knowledgeable in standard computer equipment, applications, and programs, such as Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain office files, schedule and calendar
  • Ability to use tact, diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality
