Position Description

  Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy Faculty– Department of Physical Therapy

1. Brief statement of duties and responsibilities:  

The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh, which is ranked number 1 in the US News and World Report, is currently recruiting a faculty member with a strong clinical background in musculoskeletal physical therapy and experience in teaching in a hybrid learning environment to serve as a core faculty member for the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program with responsibilities for teaching, conducting research, and providing service in the Department of Physical Therapy.  The faculty member will be committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The full-time 12-month position will be in the appointment stream at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, depending on the candidate's qualifications. 

The Department is housed in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS), one of the six Schools of Health Sciences. We offer an entry-level DPT degree, and post-professional programs leading to a Master of Science in Physical Therapy, PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences, and dual DPT-PhD in Bioengineering degrees as well as post-graduate certificates. The DPT degree is delivered in two formats: residential and hybrid and this position will primarily serve the hybrid format.

Responsibilities for the Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy Faculty position include:

·       Collaborating with the Vice Chair for DPT Education, Program Director of DPT Hybrid Option, and musculoskeletal course sequence teaching faculty to ensure consistency and quality of curricular content between residential and hybrid courses;

·       Participating in DPT instruction in the hybrid option in the areas of kinesiology and musculoskeletal physical therapy;

·       Developing onsite immersion laboratory experiences in areas of kinesiology and musculoskeletal physical therapy;

·       Assisting with recruitment and selection of adjunct faculty, instructors, and lab assistants for the musculoskeletal PT course sequence;

·       Contributing to ongoing curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation;

·       Participating in DPT student advisement and admissions;

·       Conducting research in the scholarship of teaching and/or clinical musculoskeletal conditions;

·       Service on committees relevant to the teaching, research, and service missions of the Department, School, and University.

2. Minimum objective qualifications; other desirable qualifications:

Requirements for the position

      ·         Earned professional DPT degree from a CAPTE-accredited program;

      ·         Licensed as a physical therapist or eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania;

Desirable candidates for the position may have some of the following qualifications:

      ·         PhD or other advanced doctoral degree;

      ·         Experience as a clinician in a setting relevant to orthopaedic physical therapy;

      ·         Experience in teaching orthopaedic physical therapy in a hybrid learning environment;  

3. Rank and/or title; salary range or minimum:

Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor is anticipated. The academic rank and salary are competitive and will be commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

4. Tenure/tenure-stream/non-tenure stream; full/part-time:

  This is an appointment stream, full-time position.
