Position Overview
The Department of Slavic, German, and Eurasian Studies at the University of Kansas invites applications for a multi-term lecturer in Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/Serbian (BCMS) languages and cultures, to begin in fall 2024. We are looking for someone who can provide instruction with respect to the four skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) in one of these languages as well an awareness of the others. The successful candidate would prepare students to communicate effectively in BCMS and navigate our diverse and interconnected world with cultural competence and respect for others.
This appointment is initially for three (3) years, with the possibility of renewal for additional terms based on performance, comprehensive review, and institutional needs. This is a full-time position with a 4:4 teaching load as well as service and obligations (see below). We are seeking a dynamic and technologically adept teacher with a strong interest in language pedagogy and experience in transdisciplinary approaches to teaching and curricular development. Job Description
95% Teaching/Advising – Teach four (4) courses per semester at the undergraduate level in BCMS language and content courses in a related field. These will primarily include the first four semesters of BCMS-language instruction but may also include general education courses taught in English (including online courses) as well as upper-division, special topics courses taught in both BCMS and English. Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
5% Service – Participate in service to the department, the College, the University, and the profession. Possibly coordinate and/or lead a study abroad program.
