We’re looking for a Multimedia Developer to not just execute our brand strategy across our communications and services but also to bring some cat-herding prowess to our complex portfolio and help turn our creative production into a smooth-running machine. What you’ll do: As the Multimedia Developer, you will be responsible for managing and executing design projects in support of the University College’s marketing, communication, and service strategy. Beyond just design production, you will also take ownership of creative projects, which involves managing internal stakeholder relationships, and, in collaboration with the Director of Creative strategy, develop and execute data-driven strategies that ensure predictive, personalized, proactive, and participatory communication strategies to our student audience.

Who you’ll work with: You will work with a small team of student designers (working learners), some of whom report to you and some of whom collaborate with you but report to others. You will report to the Director, Creative Strategy. You will frequently collaborate with our college communicators.

Work+: As a supervisor in University College’s Work+ program, the Multimedia Developer will actively facilitate the professional development of the working learners reporting to them. This includes frequently meeting with working learners, facilitating reflective activities to help them learn on the job, adjusting work activities to better support their learning, and participating in supervisor development programs to better serve their working learners.

Essential Duties

Design Production 

  • Executes design projects from beginning to end, including:
    • Assessing project needs and goals, building out a project plan, updating and pivoting projects as needed, managing production, delivering the work, and running retrospectives.
  • Plans and manages the creation of a wide variety of communication content and materials (i.e., emails and social media posts) to drive key measures of success as determined by University College.
  • Develops layout design and concept; selects and secures appropriate illustrative, photographic, and sound materials; evaluates and modifies media materials to achieve desired objectives and results.
  • Designs, creates, delivers, and modifies multimedia and web-based graphics, video, and sound elements; determines format, approach, content, level, and medium to most effectively achieve desired results; develops and/or incorporates 2D animation as appropriate.
  • Reviews the team’s visual design processes and develops plans for improving them.


Team management

  • Ensures team design work meets brand and quality standards.
  • Mentors and cross-trains other team members in areas of knowledge.
  • Ensures and enable team members to develop professionally by regularly meeting and facilitating growth opportunities.
  • Collaborates with other team members to help define the brand story and optimize the integration of content throughout University College offerings, media, and platforms.


Stakeholder management

  • Regularly communicates with stakeholders about project needs, updates, and best practices.
  • Listens to stakeholder needs, manages their expectations, and collaborates with them on design and communication ideas and strategy.
  • Empowers stakeholders with clear expectations, processes, tools, and resources.


Video

  • Operates video editing equipment; determines/edits special effects, composition, and overall design of video productions; records audio. 
  • Serves as producer and/or director of video and still photographic events; schedules equipment, selects location(s), and develops storyboard; completes all post-production editing and/or integration of elements to achieve the desired outcome; maintains archives of digital photographs. 


Research

  • Tests new multimedia technologies and evaluates educational applications; configures, maintains, upgrades and troubleshoots resource studio multimedia technologies. 
  • Remains abreast of technology directions, initiatives, and trends within the scope of expertise to provide ideas, guidance, and recommendations.     


Strategy

  • Collaborates with the Director, Creative Strategy in developing strategy around brand, marketing, communications, and design.
  • Collaborates, consults, and actively participates in new idea generation, brainstorming concepts, and making recommendations for creative ways to accomplish goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Media Communications, Film or Video Production, Design, or Graphic Design, Graphic Arts, or a closely related field AND two years of progressive experience GRAPHICS (Proficiency) Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator - or - VIDEO (Proficiency) video/audio production. OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of intermediate design principles (form, color, composition, etc.)GRAPHICS (Proficiency)
  • Working knowledge of video/audio production and editing equipment (cameras, mixers, etc.)VIDEO (Proficiency)
  • Fundamental knowledge of principles regarding editing, graphics, titling. 
  • Experience in planning, implementing and producing media tasks as assigned. 
  • Experience in visually representing interpreted data. 
  • Experience in planning, implementing and shooting basic video, and produce basic programs as assigned. 
  • Experience in setup audio and compose lighting to competent standards. 
  • Experience in providing creative ideas to put together text, images, and sound to achieve desired results; understands targeted audience needs /requirements.  
  • Evidence of effective communication with team members and stakeholders.
  • Experience in planning and organizing effectively 

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended
  • periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to the resolution of conflicts.
  • Clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
