7:00 am – 3:30 pm; Monday – Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.
Mandatory Position
This position is designated as ‘mandatory’ and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position
This is a Facility Maintenance Technician (Mechanical Trades) at the Journey level. The position is considered to be fully functioning in a particular trade area. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work at the contributing level. This position may also be allowed to perform/learn another trade discipline either at the contributing or journey level. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components in assigned zones.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

University Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Essential Job Duties
1. Responsible for performing routine maintenance of motors and pumps to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
2. Use electrical test devices to troubleshoot and repair motor electrical control circuits.
3. Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them by checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
4. Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
5. Use knowledge and skill in Building Automation Systems (BAS) to complete tasks as needed.
6. Look up and order parts using Google Sheets and Drive.
Other Work Responsibilities
1. Work with minimal supervision or instruction, and complete work with a high level of competence and professionalism in compliance with generally accepted trade practices.
2. Communicate effectively with customers, and managers, and provide high-quality customer service based on University policy and procedures.
3. Record daily activities in the order tracking system (Archibus) using a tablet.
4. Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated, dependent on Zone needs.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
1. Graduation from high school or equivalent and three years experience with motor experience preferred.
3. Experience using digital alignment tools preferred.
4. Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension).
5. Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
6. Computer literacy required. Knowledge and skill with Google Systems, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.
7. Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds.
8. Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
9. The selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications
Valid Driver’s license.
