The Lead Teacher will lead the classroom by maintaining a high quality learning environment that meets licensing standards, and provides a student-centered environment that meets the mission and philosophy of the early childhood department.

Essential Duties

  • Provide a positive, safe, and nurturing environment for children and maintain orderly and calm surroundings.
  • Ensure that the program conforms to health, safety, and licensing regulations, at all times.
  • Keep abreast of research and new developments in the field of early childhood education.
  • Plan and implement the program of the classroom in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the early childhood program.
  • Develop and post a weekly lesson plan to meet the individual needs of the children, with concern for their interest, development level, talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
  • Maintain a list of teacher substitutes and make sure the classroom is covered daily. 
  • Clean the classroom daily and sanitize the toys weekly. 
  • Be aware and consider individual children and families in relationship to their cultural and socioeconomic background.
  • Treat all children and families with dignity and respect.
  • Foster activities to help children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
  • Lead in classroom arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment.
  • Work with the education department to promote the program, collect applications and organize child files. 
  • Supervise all teaching staff, interns, work-study students, and volunteers to ensure the smooth coordination of all activities and staff/student relationships.
  • Work with the Education Department Chair to plan and implement teacher trainings, staff meetings, and parent newsletters.
  • Work with the various programs on campus to coordinate activities for the center.
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings.
  • Assist the Early Childhood department to implement a student internship program within the classroom.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and complete requisitions for needed materials.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Requirements


  • High school or equivalent (Required)
Required Certification:  
  • Completed ITS-SIDS, CPR & First Aid

Required Industry Experience: 


  • Two-years’ experience teaching in a preschool environment.




Preferred Requirements


  • A.A.S. Early Childhood Education or higher
