Summary
The Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology is currently seeking a Ph.D. level scientist at the Instructor level with experience in bacterial genetics and anaerobic microbiology to develop microbial based therapeutics for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of human disease. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of synthetic biology experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for engineering microbial platforms to sense disease biomarkers in the human body and produce therapeutic proteins in the gut environment. The ability to grow human intestinal communities under physiological conditions to test engineered constructs is essential. Experience with animal models is preferred.
Job Duties
The successful candidate will spend most of their time designing and executing the engineering of bacterial constructs using precision genome engineering techniques. They will work together with students, postdocs and research technicians and provide guidance in the areas of synthetic biology and anaerobic microbiology. Additional expectations include attending weekly laboratory meetings, writing manuscripts, and oral presentation of work and local and national conferences. Finally, the candidate will assist in writing grants and obtaining external funding for research projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in microbiology or similar field and at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience. Demonstrated expertise in synthetic biology and anaerobic microbiology required.
