Job Summary
This is a part-time (70%) and one year limited term position that will be located in Mobile, AL. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funding.
Mobile County Extension Office is excited to begin the search for Part-Time 4-H/Workforce Agent Assistant! This person will be responsible for implementing and coordinating the goals and objectives of the 4-H Youth program with 75% of their time and will devote another 30% of time to the Mobile County workforce development initiative.
Responsible for implementing and coordinating the goals and objectives of the 4-H Youth program for the Mobile County Extension Office. The Agent Assistant will also assist in preparing curriculum, implementing youth related programs, and working directly with youth activities. The successful candidate will follow and adapt, when necessary, specific lesson plans designed to broaden youth social and cognitive skills through hands-on activities. Must have good organizational skills to efficiently and accurately maintain records of youth education sessions and progress, as well as follow the guidelines and policies of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. This position will assist and/or work with the County Extension Coordinator and 4-H Regional Extension Agent in activities that benefit the youth of the counties. The position reports to the County Extension Coordinator.

Essential Functions
  • The successful applicant must have a demonstrated interest in working with youth ages 5-19 concerning a variety of issues.
  • Must have a sincere interest in working with volunteers and professional staff in an educational setting, and the ability to recruit, train and motivate volunteers while nurturing positive self-esteem, decision-making and leadership skills; ability to follow instructions related to work with minimum supervision from professional staff; a willingness to become familiar with and work within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System; and access to reliable transportation.
  • Effective communication and human relations skills; a working knowledge in operating a personal computer (i.e. software programs including Microsoft Word and Access) are all critical.
  • This position will deliver extension workforce development programming to youth and adult audiences in business, educational, and public agency settings.
  • The position will also provide programmatic leadership and serve as a liaison between Extension and leaders within business and industry, education, economic development, and county/city government.
  • The workforce development agent will also collaborate with local partners to identify and define workforce skill needs and coordinate programmatic implementation to meet identified needs.
  • Program offerings will address topics such as soft skills, job retention, career exploration, customer service, personal finance, and entrepreneurship and financial business planning.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Level I-High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience.
Level II- High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
Degrees accepted in lieu of experience, at a rate of one year relevant education per year of required experience.
