Duties and Responsibilities
The MilTech Solutions Engineer – Research Analyst will work directly with the MilTech Information Research and Analysis team, MilTech staff, and industry partners to conduct information research that supports DOD and government client technology transition needs. Activities may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Manage research projects with internal stakeholders, research partners, and vendors, in compliance with all relevant MilTech PIA (Partnership Intermediary Agreement) requirements. This could include but is not limited to participating in status calls, supporting proposal development, conducting quality control on research deliverables, ensuring research work is aligned to meet project objectives and the expectations of the customers.
  • Conduct MilTech project-related research in areas that include market intelligence, technology scouting, supplier scouting, partner scouting, and user feedback.
  • Develop and manage research resources which may include internal MilTech staff and students as well as contracted resources.
  • Mine secondary databases such as IBISWorld, Nexis Uni, and LENS to support government customer and project needs.
  • Develop reports and present research results to MilTech customers in compliance with relevant PIA requirements; assist with development of standard MilTech reporting methods as needed.
  • Travel to meet with DOD customers, and industry partners as required for the success of the project as needed. This could include but is not limited to meeting with user groups to understand requirements, delivering final presentations, vetting industry capabilities, and attending face-to-face meetings.
  • Follow State of Montana and Federal guidelines for the procurement of goods and services in support of project execution.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Demonstrated significant and progressive experience in research or information management.
  • Demonstrated significant and progressive experience in information research and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency using Word, Excel, and Power Point presentations in prior research activities.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in field related to research or data management, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Master’s degree in Information Science or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with DOD or government research projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with technology transition-related activities.
  • Prior experience working with ITAR, CUI, and/or other security-restricted data.
  • The Successful Candidate Will
    • Represent MilTech in a professional manner when interacting with clients, internal and external personnel.
    • Effectively collaborate with MilTech, MSU, DOD, government, civilian, research, or internal and external personnel in order to accomplish multiple research or technology transition projects.
    • Possess the ability to design and develop innovative solutions that meet the customer’s requirements.
    • Possess evidence of good judgment, flexibility and innovation to respond to the needs of a wide variety of clients.
    • Possess the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
    Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
    This position is contingent upon continued grant funding. A remote work location may be agreed upon, depending on experience, facility (such as office location), location suitability to meet mission requirements, and other factors.
    Successful candidate must be able to comply with the federally mandated requirements of U.S. export control laws, which may require proof that candidate is a U.S. person. Per 22 CFR §120.15, U.S. person means a person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
    This position may require the ability to obtain a Security Clearance, pass the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Fitness requirements to obtain DHS security credentials, and/or meet other government-defined restrictions appropriate for work level and access. Other security-related requirements will include receiving favorable background checks by state and federal agencies pursuant to federal law and regulations.
    This position requires ability to travel via all modes of transport when necessary to interact with DOD and/or DHS customers, including travel throughout the Continental U.S. as well as Alaska, Hawaii, U.S territories and possessions, and possibly other worldwide locations.
