Position Summary
The Indiana University School of Public Health‐Bloomington (SPH‐B) invites applications for a mid-to-senior level tenured faculty position in the Department of Health & Wellness Design. This search seeks applicants at the associate or full professor rank to serve as a member of the Health & Wellness Design faculty with demonstrated excellence in basic, applied, or translational research with a focus in (a) aging or geroscience and/or (b) behavioral interventions research. We seek applicants passionate about impactful science, training, and service towards our shared vision of “better health, by design.” These academic year (“10‐month”) appointments would ideally start August 1, 2024, although an earlier or later start date is negotiable. The SPH-B on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington and is comprised of over 200 faculty across five departments. Continuing the momentum of hiring over 40 outstanding tenure-track/tenured faculty over the last two years, the SPH-B is launching another wave of faculty recruitment. The Department of Health & Wellness Design is vigorously growing in research productivity: in the past two years, the department hired 12 new early- and mid- career faculty, had a 350% increase in grant submissions and 16-fold increase in submission budgets, and increased external research grant expenditures a remarkable 3,471%. We have invested in research laboratories in aging and dementia, technology, and behavioral interventions. The department is intent to hire mid-career or senior faculty capable of leading research centers of excellence, program-projects, funded training programs, and other larger-scale initiatives. The Department of Health & Wellness Design maintains strong connections to other departments in the SPH-B and other schools across Indiana University.

Basic Qualifications
Qualifications: Candidates must hold a doctoral degree or professional doctorate (PhD, MD, DO, PharmD, NDP, etc.) in a field related to health or aging from an accredited educational institution. A firm commitment to the role of diversity in all aspects of research, education and service is essential. Candidates must have teaching experience at the graduate or professional level. Good interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively and congenially within a diverse faculty are required. Leadership skills and vision for enhancing the academic components of an interdisciplinary department are essential. Candidates for associate and full professor positions must demonstrate a record of scholarly achievement appropriate for a senior career level, including extramurally funded research as a corresponding principal investigator, current funding or strong potential to secure external funding, and experience leading sizeable research initiatives.

Additional Qualifications
Responsibilities: Tenure track faculty in the Department of Health & Wellness Design are expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of the department by developing and/or maintaining a robust research portfolio including pursuing and obtaining major extramural research funding to conduct cutting-edge research in modern public health science both as a corresponding principal investigator and a collaborating investigator; teaching and mentoring students at the undergraduate and/or graduate level as designated by the department chairperson; and actively providing service internally to the department, school and university and externally to the profession and/or the community. Areas of special interest and current strengths include: aging, disability, chronic illness; health behavior intervention research; health equity and social determinants of health; informatics, technology, and digital health; brain health and mental health; patient experience; nonpharmacologic therapies and models of care; and various approaches to design and innovation including human-centered design, community-based participatory research, and implementation science. All research areas related to health will be considered, with preference given to research that is collaborative, synergistic with other SPH-B and Indiana University faculty and aligns with major funding priorities.
The successful candidate will be instrumental to furthering the department’s culture of collaborative, impactful research, and will lead or contribute to applications for centers of excellence, research training programs, and similar collaborative initiatives to enhance research infrastructure and national reputation. Candidates should be enthusiastic about contributing to the training of future generations of health researchers and professionals, involving students in research, and developing education programs that reflect the future of health and healthcare. In fact, successful candidates will have the opportunity to establish new PhD or Master’s level degree programs in their area(s) of specialty. The department currently provides comprehensive support packages for doctoral students from underrepresented groups or working on health equity.
All research areas related to health will be considered, with preference given to research that is collaborative, synergistic with other SPH-B and Indiana University faculty and aligns with major funding priorities. We are particularly interested in research on (a) aging and geroscience and/or (b) behavioral health interventions. These positions are located on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana, and successful candidates are expected to work on the Indiana University Bloomington’s campus to allow full engagement with the department, school, campus, and community. Indiana University bases its tenure and promotion recommendations upon performance in three areas including research, teaching, and service. All individuals hired through this initiative are expected to excel in research and provide strong performance in teaching and service.
