Job Summary

The Microfab Research Engineer supports semiconductor research in the Birck Nanotechnology Center cleanroom and labs. This individual is responsible for equipment repair, process characterization, and training for a variety of process equipment, including but not limited to Plasma Etching, Atomic Layer Deposition, Atomic Force Microscopy, Epitaxy, CNT Growth Systems. The Microfab Research Engineer will support and train new users in assigned equipment and support research efforts of Birck faculty.

Additional responsibilities include support of networked systems used in the Birck Nanotechnology Center including Toxic Gas Monitoring System, atrium displays, and the Equipment/Business Scheduling & Reporting software package. Support recharge data analysis and computation.

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science discipline, such as electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, physics, chemistry, or chemical engineering
  • Two (2) years of experience in a research environment 
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Ability to handle a diverse amount of equipment responsibilities including lasers, vacuum systems, and information technology applications
  • Working knowledge of vacuum systems, control system trouble-shooting, IT applications, and some light programming
  • Ability to analyze process results and to use discretion and independent judgement
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment with technicians, scientists and engineers
  • Ability to solicit and evaluate advice from and interact with appropriate professionals including sales reps, skilled trades, and field service engineers
  • Ability to develop new techniques necessary to perform new frontiers of research
  • Ability to develop information to disseminate to users and potential users of the facility
  • Ability to teach others current techniques and use equipment related to research projects
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair laboratory equipment
