Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

Under general supervision, independently performs routine and qualitative clinical laboratory assays, processes samples for viral culture, prepare and verifies the quality of reagents and media data entry of test results and control charts, demonstrates and trains timeslips in basic laboratory skills, verifies the quality of reagents and media, and performs other laboratory work in support of microbiologists and faculty. Eligibility and understanding of BSL-2 laboratory safety guidelines and work environment is required.


Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, biochemistry, zoology, or a related science; OR equivalent education/experience

  • Ability to work weekends and/or holidays during high volume testing periods.

  • Rotate on weekend duty/holidays as scheduled.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education to include at least 20 semester credit hours or 30 quarter credit hours in microbiology, molecular biology or virology. 

  • Work experience reading and using light microscopy, fish tissue processing, and using laboratory SOP’s.

Monthly Salary:

$4,282 to $5,756 | Range 50 (Steps A-M) | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28 OR applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
