Position Summary

The University of New Mexico, School of Medicine's Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking an Accounting Manager.  This person is responsible for the oversight of all budgeting, accounting, and financial functions including clinical practice revenue in an academic environment.  The department has 14 Divisions employing over 400 (faculty and staff) employees.
We are a complex department with an operating budget of over $80M annually.  We are seeking a highly motivated leader who will provide integrated strategic business, finance, and budget planning for a large, multifaceted research, clinical, and educational department consisting of multiple programs and component enterprises.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying key strategic business opportunities, interfacing with senior administration, faculty, staff, industry, academic, and/or government agency officials in the representation and development of strategic programs. Internal Medicine is looking for the ideal candidate who is not just a leader but also excels in customer service and teamwork; a well-rounded individual who can effectively balance multiple responsibilities and priorities. The selected candidate will inspire and guide others, while also being actively engaged in providing excellent service to customers. This person would likely thrive in environments where collaboration and teamwork are valued. 

The individual will oversee all clinical practice revenue management, working closely with the department's practice manager, internal and external business activities, accounting, finance, as well as budget development and management.  This position will also be responsible for the overall fiscal management for grant administration and resource management.  The selected individual is expected to fully participate with the Chair, Department Administrator and other senior faculty in integrated strategic and operational decision making as a full member of the department's leadership team.

Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree successful completion of at least 15 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient in managing accounting tasks encompassing substantial revenues, expenditures, balances, grants, and related financial matters.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills to include day to day operations, project management & strategic planning.
  • Fiscal management to include budgeting, fiscal projections, and variance reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, collect, analyze and compile data and develop management reports, to include trend analysis and business planning.
  • Excellent written communication skills to include creating, composing and editing a wide variety of documents as well as oral communication skills in presenting data to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience in all phases of personnel management, including hiring, performance reviews, performance management. Demonstrated ability in team leadership and training.
  • Experience in health care finance and contract & grant account management
  • Proficient skills in Word and Excel
