The Oklahoma Mesonet measures, collects, and disseminates weather data from 170+ automated weather stations across the state. Located in the National Weather Center, the Mesonet Calibrations Group manages the operation of measurement equipment in both the field and laboratory. This includes a research site consisting of several different rain gauges located in a pit. These gauges must be properly maintained to provide a long-term reference dataset for comparison with nearby gauges.
Typical Duties:
- Analyze rainfall data from research and standard Mesonet rain gauge
- Ensure pit facility is properly drained and gauges are clean after each rain event
- Maintain vegetation near research site
- Perform annual weighing gauge calibration-verification
- Assist with rain gauge calibration and documentation as needed
*Position is located at the National Weather Center. Time is approximately 10 hours per week
Must possess valid driver’s license in order to drive University vehicles

Job Requirements
---
Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the Spring 2024 Term as an undergraduate student at The University of Oklahoma. Hiring is contingent upon verification of current student status.
- Must attach Spring 2024 class schedule and academic transcript
- Will not complete undergraduate degree prior to Spring 2025
Skills:
- Ability to review and analyze large quantities of meteorological data
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Ability to shift between traditional office work and field work
- Ability to follow through on projects with minimal supervision
- Basic Python programming knowledge
Department Preferences:
- Desire to learn other programming languages, such as KaleidaGraph
- Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
- School of Meteorology Student
- Available to work weekends and holidays
- Available to work in-person Summer 2024
Physical Requirements:
- Vision adequate enough to see computer screen and printed numbers
- Dexterity for typing
- Lifting and carrying loads up to 50 pounds
- Climbing stairs and ladders
