The UW Counseling Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Mental Health Therapist. This position provides counseling services and outreach to enrolled UW students to enhance their personal and academic success and ameliorate barriers to that success. This position also provides professional consultation to UW faculty, staff, and students regarding student behavior, mental health, and academic challenges in order to enhance an inclusive campus climate for student success. This position will include focus on providing counseling and outreach services for veteran students.

The work involves daily intense contact with UW students in psychological or academic distress.  Assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and appropriate referrals - on and off campus - will be required. The ability to effectively work with underserved students is necessary. This position serves as counselor-on-duty for some portion of the week, requiring excellent crisis intervention skills. This person must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds. This position may provide clinical supervision for doctoral psychology interns in clinical or counseling psychology, requiring expertise in supervision models and a good understanding of risk management issues. 

This position will have a liaison relationship with the Student Veteran Life office and will provide consultation to a variety of departments and constituents on campus: Career Center, Disability Resources for Students, Q Center, Live Well, Hall Health, Academic Advisors, the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity, Residential Life and other campus units.  The person will be part of an interdisciplinary team designed to enhance the mental health of UW students and to create a healthier campus climate.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Psychotherapy - Provide short-term individual, couple and group therapy to currently-enrolled UW students, including initial intake assessment and referrals
Outreach and Prevention Services - Provide psychoeducational outreach presentations to student groups, faculty and staff as requested
Crisis Intervention - Assess and intervene when students present in crisis, with problems of a complex or threatening nature
Consultation - Provide professional consultation to UW faculty, staff and students regarding student behavior, mental health and academic challenges in order to enhance an inclusive campus climate for student success
Serve on departmental and campus committees - Provide mental health perspective when participating in committees
• Maintain confidential, comprehensive , accurate and up-to-date paperwork for counseling services provided
• Engage in professional development to keep current in the field, including maintaining license as mental health therapist (LMHC, LICSW, LMFT, or psychologist) in Washington

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Two years of experience providing mental health counseling to college-age clients, preferably in a university or college counseling center
• Evidence of outstanding skills in clinical assessment, psychotherapy and counseling, crisis management, and psychoeducational outreach
• Licensure in the state of Washington for the independent practice of mental health counseling

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
