Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Mental Health Spec. III for NJMS-Psychiatry.
The primary purpose of the Mental Health Specialist III, as a member of the Center of Excellence (COE) team, is to assist consumers in the management of their substance use and mental health disorders, by providing intensive case management services, in the context of a harm-reduction approach. Provides consumer support that is consistent with the philosophy of the program, as clinically indicated, to assigned clients in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures. Individuals that have personal experience with recovery from a substance use disorder are encouraged to apply.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Performs a biopsychosocial assessment consistent with the care plan and develops goals with the client to address their needs.
  • Interacts with patients in a therapeutic manner, taking initiative in engaging patients in a tactful manner and communicating with patients in an empathic and concerned manner.
  • Establishes and maintains boundaries and limit setting as indicated by feedback from team members.
  • Participates in the assessment and treatment of patients.
  • Answers client telephone calls.
  • Correctly processes information for appointment scheduling, answer questions, and assist with problem solving.
  • Screens emergent/urgent phone calls, inquiries related to the availability of appointments, scheduled appointment dates and times.
  • Documents assessments, interventions, and interactions with patients in a timely manner and in accordance with established policies.
  • Collaborates with other clinical care team members as it relates to client access to community resources.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Three (3) years of full-time experience in the mental health field 
  • OR two (2) years of college majoring in a relevant social or health care field plus one (1) year of full-time experience in the mental health and/or addiction medicine field.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Must be able to lift or exert force, up to ten (10) pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Varied work settings include office, hospital, and community settings. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases. Subject to a varying and unpredictable situation. Maybe be exposed to consumers exhibiting assaulting or aggressive behavior. Office environment with moderate noise.

Immunization Requirements
