The Mizzou Athletics Department encourages applications for a licensed mental health professional position.  This full-time position is located within the department of athletics and collaborates closely with other units including sports medicine, mental performance, strength and conditioning, academic coordinators, and executive team members.  We are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate psychologist committed to providing excellence in mental healthcare to our student-athletes.

We are recruiting candidates with specific expertise and professional background in delivering culturally affirming and responsive clinical mental health services with a particular focus on working with College Student-Athletes identified as Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC). 

This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program.  This shall include adhering to the principles of the Athletic Department’s Mission Statement, Diversity and Inclusion Missouri Statement, Core Values, Policies, and Procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the SEC Conference, and the NCAA.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide culturally competent and confidential, individual counseling to student-athletes; providing crisis interventions to student-athletes as needed.

Work closely with the mental performance team to understand team values and dynamics.

Participate within the Integrated Healthcare Team (IHT).  Members of IHT include a range of licensed healthcare providers including a dietician, psychiatrist, sports medicine physician, athletic trainer, and licensed mental healthcare providers.  The group meets weekly for 1 -1 ½ hours to provide comprehensive care to student-athletes coping with complex mental health concerns.  Members of this group have frequent contact throughout the week in order to provide comprehensive care.
Work collaboratively with head/assistant team coaches, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, academic coordinators, executive team members, and other athletics personnel regarding mental health.
Administer, review, and provide follow up care related to the Wellness Assessment.  The Wellness Assessment is a self-report assessment, utilizing reliable and validated measures of mental health.  The Wellness Assessment is administered to all incoming student-athletes.

Provide psychoeducational information to student-athletes, coaches and staff as needed.

Complete case notes and necessary documentation in a timely manner.
