Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Mental Health Clinician II – HD clinic for NJMS-Neurology. This position contributes to the Huntington’s Disease clinical treatment team by providing social work services to patients and their families/significant others, assisting them in resolving social, emotional and environmental problems that interfere with psychosocial functioning and a positive response to medical treatment and health care.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Provides individual, group, couples, and family psychotherapy, as clinically needed, to assigned clients in the HD program.
  • Involves client and/or family in developing achievable and understandable psychosocial treatment plans in accordance with accepted professional standards.
  • Advocates for appropriate resources for affected and at risk clients and families based on assessed needs by multidisciplinary HD Clinic teams.
  • Engages clients in appropriate, multidisciplinary treatment program.
  • Assists clients in effectively managing mental health crises and coordinates medical and psychiatric crises for HD patients and families in northern and central NJ.
  • Responds with sensitivity to cultural and socio-economic issues of clients.
  • Manages termination issues including entrance into long term care facilities in NJ for HD patients, in an effective and timely manner.
  • Manages caseload demands effectively while considering both quality of care and agency needs.
  • Assumes overall case management responsibilities for assigned clients, including coordination of treatment and liaison with community agencies in medical, psychiatric, and social service agencies.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, plus two (2) years post master’s experience in the mental health field, or a Doctorate. 
  • Post Master’s experience must include two (2) years working with Huntington’s Disease patients or families including implementation of a presymptomatic and prenatal genetic testing protocol for genetic testing for Huntington’s Disease. 
  • LCSW required. 
Certifications/Licenses
  • Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work. 
  • Licensed in New Jersey to provide mental health services as an independent practitioner (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT, psychology license).
  • Valid driver’s license
