Position Summary
The Central Michigan University College of Medicine (CMED) is seeking to hire a highly qualified faculty member with broad training in medical ethics, law, health systems, social determinants of health, medical research, and/or medical humanities to co-direct and teach in the Medicine and Society course. The successful candidate will assume a role in the ongoing improvement of a highly integrated, cross-disciplinary, clinical presentation and inquiry-based medical school curriculum that includes Case-Based and Team-Based Learning. This role will also include facilitating small-group Problem-Based Learning case discussions and may include teaching elective courses in the candidate’s content area. Scholarship expectations are those related to the development of educational modules, medical education research as well as research in the candidate’s area of expertise. This position can be at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank, depending on credentials.
Required Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (ex. PhD, JD, MD/DO) in a field related to medical ethics, medicine, health services/administration, or medically related social sciences.
  • Experience in health professions education and commitment to innovative approaches to education and learning.
  • Ability to facilitate interactive learning in large and small group settings.
  • Record of scholarly activity with the expectation of continued scholarly activity.
  • Strong collaborative and communication skills.
  • Experience with incorporating DEI into pedagogical and or research practices.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

The CMU College of Medicine graduated its sixth class of physicians in May 2022. The college was created to prepare diverse, culturally competent physicians focused on improving access to high-quality healthcare, with an emphasis on rural and medically underserved regions.
