Scope of Position

The Martha Morehouse Laboratory provides comprehensive, time sensitive laboratory services to patients with a variety of diagnoses or admission/discharge criteria. The Martha Morehouse laboratory staff performs testing on patient specimens utilizing chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation and blood gases analyzers. The lab provides training for residents, new staff and Medical Technology students. The laboratory is staffed 10 hours per day, Monday through Friday with hours varying according to workflow and holidays.
Position Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs routine automated and manual testing procedures, dispatches specimens to appropriate testing locations. The Medical Laboratory Technologist will perform test requisition entry, ensures accuracy of test results, documents quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on instrumentation. They will also verify reports, test request, accuracy and quality of specimens collected and trains others in these techniques. Will greet and direct patients, gather patient information necessary to complete registration in order to perform specimen collection by capillary / venipuncture, EKGs and point of care testing. The Medical Laboratory Technologist works under the direction of the lab manager and lead technologist(s).

Minimum Education Required
2-Year College Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology/Med Lab Science or biological science degree, with MT/MLS certification. If not certified, applicant must obtain MLS certification within 1 year of hire, with first board of certification test attempt within the first six months of hire.
