Medical Research Technician Inflammation
TNPRC - Immunology
Location:  Covington, LA
Summary
The employee will work as a Medical Research Technician in the Division of Immunology, Tulane National Primate Research Center. The laboratory focuses on inflammatory and innate immune responses during infections (e.g.: SARS-CoV-2 and HIV) and immune dysfunctions (e.g.: aging). The employee will work in a highly collaborative environment that includes a Flow Cytometry Core and an Immunology Core. Responsibilities include performing a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment and using both manual and automated methods, specifically in the field of cellular immunology (e.g.: Flow cytometry, ELISA, Meso scale Discovery) and microbiology (e.g.: PCR). The ideal candidate can work independently under minimal supervision and will oversee ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, and general laboratory maintenance. Training will be provided in Biosafety protocols by the Principal Investigator as well as by the Institutional Department of Biosafety.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         Ability to perform meticulous laboratory work with careful attention to detail, and in strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures.

·         Familiarity with bio-molecular and animal research work.

·         Strong organizational skills.


Required Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor of Science Degree
• OR 
• High School Diploma (or Equivalent) with 6 years of research experience in molecular biology, immunology and/or other microbiology-related disciplines
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in a biological sciences field with 1 year of research experience in molecular biology, immunology and/or other microbiology-related disciplines 
• Experience with cellular immunology techniques such as ELISPOT assays, cytotoxicity assays, ELISA and flow cytometry assays and with molecular biology techniques including DNA and RNA extraction, and real time PCR.
• Knowledge of BSL2 and BSL3 bio-containment principles, both for animal and laboratory space is required. 
• Familiarity with basic computational tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Compensation Information
This position is classified as "non-exempt, hourly" and is assigned to pay grade 23.
