Medical Research Technician
SOM Department of Medicine
Location:  New Orleans, LA
Summary
This position is for a Medical Research Technician will require a strong understanding of molecular biology techniques (with a preference for established expertise in nucleic acid purification, qPCR, western blot analysis) and experience with human cell culture. Additional experience with single cell and single nuclear preparations as well as immunocytochemistry are beneficial but not required. Cell culture and biochemical assays will be a regular task in this position. More importantly, the ideal candidate will demonstrate adaptability and a willingness to learn new techniques
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  •  Ability to work with others and demonstrate respect for others’ ideas.
  •  Knowledge of molecular biology techniques and a willingness to learn additional techniques as needed for laboratory work.
  • Willingness to acquire new methodologies to study cardiovascular disease states, specifically atherosclerosis and aging.
  • Must be able to adapt to an ever-changing research environment.
  •  Strong organizational skills.

Required Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of related experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in following streams of sciences: cell biology, molecular biology, infectious disease, microbiology, immunology, biological science.
  • Previous work as a laboratory or medical technician
  •  Able to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Enjoys learning

Compensation Information
This position is classified as "non-exempt, hourly" and is assigned to pay grade 23.
