Medical Research Specialist
TNPRC - Microbiology
Location:  Covington, LA
Summary

The Medical Research Specialist for this exciting systems biology research laboratory would perform multitude of diagnostic and quantitative assays and primarily focused on understanding how viruses cause disease and resulting immune responses control viral infections in Biosafety Level 2 laboratories (BSL2 and BSL2-enhanced), in adherence with the Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) in place. This position will work independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills; as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to perform meticulous laboratory work with careful attention to detail, and in strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Proficient use of basic laboratory research equipment.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in document preparation using programs such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint.
• The candidate should also be able to maintain the laboratory website in collaboration with IT personnel.
• Experience with biological data processing and analysis.
Required Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in a biological sciences field
• 2+ years of research experience in microbiology, virology, immunology, molecular biology and/or related disciplines
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with BSL2 bio-containment principles and protocols, both for animal and laboratory space.
• Ability to multi-task and successfully meet established deadlines.
• Strong analytical skills, preferably with experience in JMP, R, or Python for data analysis.
• Familiarity with reference management tools (e.g. Zotero, EndNote).
Compensation Information
This position is classified as "non-exempt, hourly" and is assigned to pay grade 25.
