Medical Research Specialist
TNPRC - Microbiology
Location:  Covington, LA
Summary
Position is located at the Tulane National Primate Research Center, Covington, LA in the laboratory of Dr. Brandon Beddingfield. Individual will be participating in the development of TNPRC as a Polio Essential Facility, which will require work with Poliovirus and Poliovirus infected mice. The individual will perform clinical and laboratory experiments according to protocols assigned by principal investigator. Prepare and maintain scheduling, laboratory reagents, supplies, and stocks for use in experiments. Keep careful records of animals, samples obtained, experiments performed, observations made, data analysis, and results. Ensure OSHA and university safety requirements are met. Virology work to include virus characterization, isolation, production, neutralizing antibody and additional procedures as requested in the BSL-3 containment laboratories. Train staff in virological techniques as well as biosafety protocols.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
• Computer competence (Word, Excel) and/or use of data analysis software (Prism, FloJo, etc.)
• Aseptic technique, handling of biological specimens, and in vitro cultivation of mammalian cells and infectious virus
• Experience using typical biomedical/microbiological laboratory equipment.
• Experience in virologic, immunologic, and molecular biologic laboratory assays. 
Required Education and/or Experience
• Bachelors Degree 
• 3-5 years’ experience in biomedical research laboratory
• Minimum 3-5 years' experience with cell and/or tissue culture and virus cultivation 
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s Degree
• 3 years’ experience working with murine models in a biomedical setting.
Compensation Information
This position is classified as "non-exempt, hourly" and is assigned to pay grade 25.
