The Student Health and Wellness Center provides integrated, holistic care for students through our medical, counseling, and health promotion and wellness departments. We assist the UWM campus community through collaborative partnerships designed to enhance the university’s academic and community service mission and focus on our student’s wellbeing as an essential component to student success.
Job Summary
The Medical Program Assistant in the Student Health and Wellness Center at UWM provides a critical interface as the entry point for the patient to access the health care delivery system at the Student Health Center and includes primary responsibilities for reception, registration, scheduling, system information and collecting payment for services rendered. Maintaining a welcoming environment in the reception area for patients is essential.
This position is expected to exercise initiative and wisdom in identifying problems and seeking permanent, workable solutions. The Medical Program Assistant must possess an attention to detail, strong communication skills, excellent organization skills, and the ability to prioritize and perform a variety of clinical tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates MUST Have:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience working in a customer/client-facing support role within an office environment
  • Preferred Qualifications
    Strong Candidates Will Have:
  • Previous experience using electronic health records
  • Previous experience in customer service
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and organize work to accomplish goals
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute positively to the department and the SHAW team
  • Experience in customer service with problem-solving situations both in person and over the phone
  • Demonstrated experience obtaining information while protecting and maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of working in a healthcare environment
  • Demonstrated ability to receive and handle money, credit patient accounts electronically, balancing monies at the end of shift
  • Experience working with a young adult, underserved, diverse population within a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
  • Target Salary Range $16.75 - $18.00
