Position Summary Information

Job Summary

The Nursing Assistant, under supervision, is responsible for the flow of patients in a busy clinic environment. Provides initial patient assessment, and performs basic clinical procedures and patient education. Cleans, sterilizes, and stocks exam rooms and medical equipment

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. One year of experience as a nurse’s aide in a general hospital, physician’s office, or related setting.

Preferred Education and Experience

Two years college training/vocational program, training in basic medical sciences. Three years experience in medical office.

Required Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations

Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within one year of employment.

Preferred Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Nurse Aide or Medical Assistant Certification.

Required Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Knowledge of medical terminology and medical supplies. Proficiency in taking vital signs using automated and manual systems. Computer Skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Contributes to an environment conducive to teamwork and collegiality. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Confidentiality with friendly, professional customer services skills required.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records. Knowledge of medical terminology and medical supplies. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations. Ability to perform basic clinical procedures as in, but not limited to, vision screening, auditory exams, EKG, ear lavage, minor wound care, spirometry, nebulizer treatments. Customer Services skills.

Detailed Job Duties

Duties Performed

Performs basic clinical procedures. Obtains weight, height, and vital signs. Accurately documents in the EMR update of medications, allergies, pertinent health history, family health history, social history, and chief complaint. Assists with maintaining the EMR with scanning documents, obtaining electronic signatures for consents, making follow up appointments, and printing patient education forms for the physician and patient. Maintains and stocks patient exam rooms. Cleans and disinfects procedure rooms and equipment. Provides input on inventory and report equipment failures.

Verifies data in the EMR. Retrieves medical records from files for visits. Delivers patient records to appropriate treatment areas. Provides general information regarding administrative procedures or programs. Serves as an information source for the unit and ensures adherence to policies with the unit. Acts in accordance with all relevant local, state and federal laws.

Greets patients, and provides assistance and direction. Answers the appointment telephone lines, schedules patient’s appointments, and provides general information to customers. Resolves customer problems and complaints.
