Summary

Performs various high-complexity clinical laboratory tests, optimizes and troubleshoots procedures, and analyzes results. Will be principally responsible for conducting semen analysis (microscopy-based count, motility, and morphology assessment) and other specialized testing including sperm DNA fragmentation. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for performing genetic testing procedures. Many of our tests are laboratory developed meaning that they require specialized expertise to troubleshoot, optimize, and standardize protocols, which is vital to the success of the laboratory's work. 
 


Job Duties
  • Performs high volume, routine tests in serology, hematology, chemistry, microbiology, histology, or cytology using validated methods and procedures.
  • Provides technical assistance in conducting routine tests in the treatment and diagnosis of disease.
  • Prepares reagents and solutions following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
  • Collects specimens such as blood, urine, sputum, and other body fluids for analysis.
  • Identifies causes of problems and makes simple corrections by using preset strategies.
  • Performs any quality control procedures required for specific tests and records results.
  • Reports any abnormalities found in test procedures and results.
  • Reports findings in writing, orally, or by computer, conforming to established guidelines.
  • Operates and performs preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and instruments.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in a related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
  • Meet the standard requirements for high-complexity testing personnel according to CLIA 493.1489, which includes either
    • 1.) having earned a bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution. or 
    • 2.) having obtained at least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; and

      • a.) having laboratory training that includes either completion of an approved/accredited clinical laboratory training program (approved/accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS)
      • b.) have at least 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual will perform high-complexity testing (ie. must have documented and verifiable expertise performing laboratory procedures of similar scope). 
  • Copies of certifications and diplomas and unofficial copies of transcripts must be uploaded as extra file(s) with initial application. Official transcripts must be sent for final consideration for position.
