BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
To perform a variety of specialized, non-routine tests, procedures, and examinations in one or more areas of work, such as chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis,
parasitology, hematology, and immunohematology for use by veterinarians in diagnosis and treatment of patients and for research.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
Perform chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, parasitology, hematology, and immunohematology procedures.
Review and report results of tests performed.
Evaluate specimen quality and labeling, ensure clients are contacted to correct problems as needed.
Perform and monitor quality control procedures and report results to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Recognize instrument malfunctions and abnormal test results and take corrective action.
Calibrate, standardize, and maintain equipment following established procedures. Perform troubleshooting techniques on instruments.
Prepare reagents, standards, and controls according to prescribed procedures.
Validate, review and report results of tests performed.
Assist with training new employees on laboratory procedures.
Dispose of or properly handle biological samples in a manner that is consistent with laboratory, university, state, and federal government policy.
Answer client questions/assist clients over the phone and in person.
Comply with VMDL quality assurance system and participate in general laboratory quality assurance procedures.
Ability to take call as assigned.
Triage tasks appropriately and multi-task effectively during busy times.
Maintain a clean, organized workspace.
Assist with stocking and ordering laboratory supplies.
Perform other laboratory duties as assigned by supervisor.
