The Center for Simulation & Innovation (CSI) at the UArizona, College of Medicine - Phoenix is a multi-disciplinary experiential learning center that mirrors in-hospital acute care settings. It is one of the largest and most advanced medical simulation centers housed within a university in the United States. The Center provides inter-professional and multidisciplinary learning environments alongside some of Arizona’s best educators and clinicians. The CSI team works cohesively to deliver state-of-the art clinical simulation training activities that support the innovative educational needs of the medical school and related health care and community partners. The CSI is now accepting applications for a Medical Education Program Professional III, Senior Program Coordinator, who reports to the Director, CSI Operations. This team member ensures resource support for key events and clinical programs are accomplished in accordance with CSI’s short- and long-term goals, priorities, time limits, funding and other requirements. The successful applicant will join a high energy team to collaboratively ensure best practices, processes and procedures are used in support of all facets of CSI. Key initiatives include resource and event management; staffing projects and events; implementing programs, projects and events; close coordination of daily activities with internal and external team members.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Works collaboratively with and receives direction from CSI leadership to support faculty and clients who are participating in innovative uses of simulation equipment and experiential learning in the department.
  • Assists in design, implementation and evaluation of a wide variety of simulation activities and processes.
  • In support of faculty and clients, coordinates with CSI staff and resources to successfully negotiate, plan, implement and manage simulation events and resources.
  • Confers with staff, students, faculty and others to provide clear, timely and accurate technical advice; problem solving assistance; answers to questions and program goals and policy interpretations. Refers to appropriate department or person when unable to respond.
  • May supervise other individuals, including the Simulation Pool staff during events.
  • Plans, directs, performs and supports event set up and tear down and supply use and stocking for a wide variety of simulation and procedural activities.
  • Coordinates event resources with stakeholders and staff, which includes documentation of all related materials, plans and activities.
  • Pre-sets rooms and equipment for events, and may coordinate Sim Pool Staff onsite activities including recruitment, scheduling and assignments.
  • Interacts with the Center's inventory and control software and assists in maintaining and ordering par values.
  • Provides hands-on team leadership and actively participates as a subject matter expert in a wide variety of simulations, including COM-P and other community and client professional events.
  • Participates in high fidelity simulations as a confederate, supporting faculty and learners in the simulation room as Interprofessional Presence, and/or behind the glass as a Simulation Operator, including participation in briefing and debriefing sessions.
  • Participates in low fidelity simulations, demonstrating procedures on trainers.
  • Completes and updates calendar, scheduling, planning, implementation and (if applicable) tracking and billing documents for assigned simulations.
  • Participates in staff training and onboarding for new team members, and refresher or next level training for current team members.
  • Demonstrates and shares an intermediate clinical and simulation subject matter expertise. Leads tours in the Simulation Center, demonstrates equipment and procedures, teaches students, guests and new staff members about simulation, and guides in the use of various equipment for simulated procedures.
  • Attends committee meetings as assigned regarding simulation and general curriculum development.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently lifts and carries up to 50 pounds. (i.e. Mannequin, task trainers and supply boxes)
  • Frequently bends/stoops, pushes/pulls, climbs stairs, kneels, balances, reaches above shoulder height, walks, and twists.
  • Fine motor skills to support set-up and use of small, hand-held medical devices and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience, certification or licensure required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is typically required.
Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in healthcare simulation, running simulation hardware and software.

• Clinical experience in health care delivery, health care administration/management, and/or health education, including experience working with different types of medical equipment.

• Current unrestricted license or certification in good standing to practice as a(n) Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Emergency Paramedic (CEP), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), medical assistant, Respiratory Therapist (RT), Physician Assistant (PA), OR similar healthcare provider professional;

• OR - three years’ prior experience as a(n) Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Emergency Paramedic (CEP), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), medical assistant, Respiratory Therapist (RT), Physician Assistant (PA), OR similar healthcare provider professional;

• OR - equivalent experience in a clinical simulation setting;

• OR - Any equivalent combination of experience, training and or/education.

• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills including communicating with diverse populations.

• Competency in running high- and low-fidelity simulations and equipment, in the room and behind the glass.

• Experience supervising events, managing resources, and leading employees.

• Proficient with web-based computer programs (Microsoft Suite, Microsoft Teams, GoogleDocs, scheduling, simple accounting, project planning).

• Experience in office productivity tools (computer software, hardware, Zoom, various applications).
