Position Summary
 Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine’s Working Forward initiative. As such, this position’s work location is designated as hybrid.
Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit’s business needs. 
This position is responsible for identifying students at risk for academic difficulty, responding to requests for academic assistance, and analyzing the areas of need in order to provide direct educational counseling and to coordinate campus resources for early intervention and remediation; working with other educational support staff to design and implement a structured summer study and test taking skills course; monitoring the progress of students in academic assistance programs; monitoring the progress of students at high risk for not passing in the academic curriculum; establishing and maintaining a collaborative and referral relationship with campus resources (e.g., CAPS). The Learning Specialist will work closely with students with neurodivergence/ADHD to aid them in developing successful strategies for studying and test-taking.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to the delivery of student advising and counseling or student personnel services, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Relevant experience and skills include:
 Experience developing and delivering student services with direct impact on students’ educational experiences.
Proficiency with strategic planning, assessment, and data analysis.
Ability to establish rapport and relate well to students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to ensure and apply compliance with university and external policies and regulations.
Resilience; demonstrated ability to problem-solve, while maintaining a positive, solution-focused approach.
Proficiency in all aspects of computer operations essential including, strong working knowledge of MS Office Word and Excel.
A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to operate with minimal daily supervision required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to proactively identify issues and develop creative solutions.
Understanding and acknowledgement of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the delivery of programs and services.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to be able to work collaboratively with students, course directors, faculty and staff within the medical education and student affairs administrative teams.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Master’s or Ed.D./Ph.D. degree, preferably with a focus in Cognitive Psychology, Educational Psychology or Adult Education.
Adept in using techniques to assess individual students’ learning skills and their ability to effectively learn.
Significant experience in academic counseling and/or learning support with undergraduate or graduate students in STEM. Experience counseling medical school students is preferred. Demonstrated expertise on successful strategies for students with neurodivergence or ADHD, or experience as an ADHD/exec functioning coach.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
