Requirements

The Medical Education Learning Specialist and Director of Student Learning oversees the strategic and daily operations of the Office of Student Learning to evaluate, execute, and advance effective and pragmatic student learning and academic advising programs to meet the diverse learning needs of the medical student body. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Student Learning, the incumbent has overarching responsibilities that include individual learning consultations for first - fourth year medical students, evaluating and advancing the academic and clinical learning environment, and collaborating with academic and administrative leadership in the Offices of Medical Education, Student Affairs, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion to ensure effective student academic support and success.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Masters degree, PhD or EdD degree in educational psychology, adult learning or health professions education
  • Five years of student learning support in allopathic or osteopathic US affiliated academic medical center.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in translating student learning theory to individual learning plans, student centered academic advising and learning strategy aligned to medical education curricular blocks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, intercultural, and communication skills for relational engagement across a diverse population of students with varying learning and support needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently, as part of a team, and across units/leadership

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree
  • Medical Education work experience at an allopathic or osteopathic medical school as a learning specialist.
  • Experience developing educational materials and/or teaching that connects basic science, clinical reasoning, and educational pedagogy and theory.
  • Experience with designing individual learning plans (ILPs) for diverse population of medical students.

Work Mode Designation

This position will utilize a Hybrid Work Mode two days per week. The Office of Student Learning operates on a student appointment basis, which is facilitated through an online form. Advising appointments can be scheduled for in-person or online (via ZOOM), so telework would not interfere with any face-to-face interaction with students. Staff members have full access to university resources to ensure normal business operations for both pre-scheduled and urgent needs. All levels of office programming and structures can be facilitated electronically via work-issued laptop and personal cell phone.
