What You'll Do

Function as part of a team to manage patient flow in a fast paced outpatient setting.  Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Rooming patients, obtain vital signs, meaningful use and enter into MIChart, prepare and turn over rooms for surgical procedures.
  • Works independently with physician during procedures, bandaging, review of post-operative instructions, suture removal.  Administering common medications as ordered by physician.
  • Clean and wrap surgical instruments for sterilization.  Deliver and pick up surgical packs from sterilization.
  • Maintain supplies and linen in surgery rooms.
  • Transport specimens to pathology.
  • Assist in training and orientation of new MA’s.
  • Provide for the safety of self and others by adherence to the hospital’s safety guidelines, policies, and practices.  Help ensure compliance with all such safety-related policies.
  • Protect and respect patient privacy and provide a secure, comfortable, and welcoming clinic environment.

Required Qualifications*
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Prior medical assistant experience in an ambulatory care clinical setting is preferred.
  • Enthusiastic, reliable, hard-working, flexible, detail-oriented, and positive minded individual with demonstrated skills in interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to take direction from a multiple number of medical clinicians and supervisor, and work efficiently in a busy environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, consistently uses available time effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Participate in in-service programs for the medical staff.
  • Must have excellent attendance and punctuality.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one-year medical assisting experience in an ambulatory care clinic setting.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
