Under supervision of the Practice Supervisor/Manager, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Staff, the Hospital Assistant III assists in the delivery of care to patients in Rheumatology/Arthritis, Scleroderma & Nephrology ambulatory groups and any other medical specialties as instructed.  Work includes a variety of personal care and clinical procedures including assuring positive care outcomes. S/he will perform assigned patient care and review of systems data collection in support of the specialty care services provided to patients within the practices. S/he will perform assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the specialty care services provided to patients.  S/he is required to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center. Work also includes mentoring of staff to promote development of skills to the mentee.

Required Qualifications

  • Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program; or equivalent combination of training and experience. 
  • Current American Heart Association CPR Certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an outpatient practice in either a clinical or administrative capacity
  • Ability to use EMR and perform chart abstraction into EMR – specifically Epic or APeX
  • Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • Familiarity with insurance and prior authorizations
  • Experience with analyzing quality improvement data and metrics
  • Past coordination of procedures
  • Strong computer skills and use of Microsoft office
  • Ability to prioritize work efficiently
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and writing skills
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
  • Must be able to multi-task and be flexible in changing work assignments at short notice
  • Familiarity with different insurances, resources available for patient medication and needs for prior authorizations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Cantonese or Spanish preferred
  • Bachelors degree in health or behavioral science.
  • Experience with insurance verification

License/Certification

  • Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program; or equivalent combination of training and experience. 
  • Current American Heart Association CPR Certification.
