Under general supervision of the Medical Director, the Administrative Director, and Nurse Manager, guided by the policies and procedures of Ambulatory Services, the UCSF Center of Pregnancy Options (CPO) Medical Assistant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily clinical, operational, human resource, administrative, clinical training and business functions of the CPO. They have the clinical and administrative responsibility for developing and maintaining a high standard of patient care, including optimizing clinic flow, providing in and outreach to patients and working collaboratively with the team to create a patient centered environment. They are responsible for personnel, finances, materials resource management, scheduling of staff, faculty, and trainees, maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff, and daily clinical operations.
The Medical Assistant Supervisor ensures that all components of clinical and nursing care provided are individualized to meet the patient's physiological and psychological developmental level and needs. They work with staff to develop, monitor, and maintain systems pertaining to all aspects of CPO clinical care. They oversee and directly participate in all staff administrative and clinical functions, including but not limited to assisting with abortion care, miscarriage care, pregnancy and contraception counseling, clinical triage and result management, and medication administration. The Medical Assistant Supervisor facilitates all training needs and a positive interaction among staff, patients, and other departments. They fill in for staff, as necessary.
This position works closely with other practice managers in Women's Health and Ambulatory Care Administration. The Medical Assistant Supervisor works to develop and implement UC Health system initiatives. Analyzes and communicates clinical and quality improvement data and makes recommendations for practice changes. They must have the ability to lead and prioritize projects and work well with staff, patients, providers, and students/trainees. The Medical Assistant Supervisor is a professional leadership role that functions with a high degree of initiative and diplomacy, which are necessary in dealing with faculty, staff and patients in a complex environment. They must be able to assess situations, prioritize workload, lead community outreach, and support practice growth. The Medical Assistant Supervisor actively engages in the local and national Family Planning and Abortion community and organizations, functions as clinic administrative lead for Ryan Program.
The Medical Assistant Supervisor will have direct managerial oversight of 3-4 clinical staff and provide general clinical support to a total of 10-12 staff and support 6-10 physicians at various sites. Provides support to 3-5 fellows, and administrative oversight of rotating 9-12 UCSF and Kaiser residents and medical students.
The Medical Assistant Supervisor will report up to the OBGYN Nurse Manager
