Department Summary

University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff are required to uphold the values of the UHS.

This position works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.


Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Psychiatry medical and nursing staff in providing excellent, effective, evidence-based, and efficient psychiatric care to University of Oregon students. This position will also support the rest of the Medical Services team (Primary Care, Acute Care, Sports Medicine) when needed for operational efficiency.

This position reports to the Lead Psychiatrist. As part of the Medical Services department, this position will work with the Assistant Director, Clinical Operations and Medical Director towards ensuring overall training, processes, and systems are working well.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and/or System of Award Management (SAM). In addition, employees must follow Compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements.

Special Qualifications:
• Current certification from a national certifying body for medical assistant/medical office assistant (e.g., American Medical Technologists, American Association of Medical Assistants, National Center for Competency Testing) as a medical aide or medical office assistant, or the ability to obtain by the agreed upon start date of employment.


Minimum Requirements

• Six months of experience providing health care support in a health care facility; OR
• Completion of a vocational training program in a health care support area (e.g. Medical Office Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant).


Professional Competencies

• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of electronic medical records and associated office software.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment.
• Experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.


Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in working with patients experiencing mental health challenges, including patients experiencing depression, anxiety, suicidality, and psychosis.
• Three years’ experience as a medical assistant/aide supporting patients with mental health needs, such as within a primary care clinic, psychiatric clinic, counseling clinic, or mental health treatment center.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification or ability to obtain by agreed upon start date of employment.
