Job Summary: Under the direction of the health care provider, Medical Assistant II is responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes the safety and wellbeing of all patients. Accurately preforms preliminary physical tests such as: measures blood pressure, records weight, temperature, pulse and respirations and other measures as directed by established clinical protocols.


Required Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years Medical Assistant Experience

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • 3 years’ experience in a clinical setting. Experience with Texas Vaccines for Children Program.


Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) required.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of word processing database applications.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • 3 years’ experience in a clinical setting. Experience with Texas Vaccines for Children Program.


Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • Medical Assistant Certification

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bilingual English and Spanish
  • Ability to perform EKGs, draw blood and administer injections.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to staff and patients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
  • Through knowledge of the meaning a
  • nd use of medical terminology and abbreviations.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
  • Maintains a positive, caring attitude towards patients.
  • Good computer skills using a medical management application.
  • Possess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with procedures.
  • Prepare/ set up for procedures being performed by physicians.
  • Prepares and administers injections and dispenses medication as directed by physician.
  • Provides patient care activities on a daily basis.
  • Serves as a lead medical assistant.
  • Transfers patients from reception to patient care areas.
  • Measures vital signs. Interviews patients for medical records.
  • Prepares patients for tests, exams, and procedures and provides basic patient education.
  • Performs basic procedures including, but not limited to: injections, vision screening, auditory exams, ear lavage, EKG, minor wound care, nebulizer treatments, throat swabs, fitting ortho slings, splints, and braces.
  • Assists and/or chaperones physician during exams or procedures, transfers specimen, and documents testing and lab results in medical records.
  • Serves as a liaison between patient and providers.
  • Participates in documentation of patient care.
  • Updates health information in electronic medical records.
  • Assists Physicians in maintenance of electronic medical records.
  • May draw blood and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Daily temperature monitoring of stored vaccines in the clinic.
  • Monthly inventory of clinic vaccine stock.
  • Submits monthly reports, orders to Texas Vaccines for Children.
  • Assists in annual audit by Texas Department of Health and Human Services for vaccines.
  • Oversees and ensures the cleanliness of exam and treatment rooms are maintained at the highest standards to prevent spread of infection in patient -care areas.
  • Monitors the stocking of patient care rooms and nurses’ stations to ensure supplies are on hand as needed for patient care.
  • Assists supervisor with training and supervision of Medical Assistant I staff and student workers.
  • Fills in for others and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Escalates non routine issues, questions and or concerns to the supervisor or healthcare provider.
  • Performs office projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
