Position Summary

The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) is seeking applications for a Full Time Medical Assistant to cover our Fort Collins clinical location.  Our MFM providers, Genetic Counselors, and Diabetes Educators provide services such as maternal and fetal disease consultation, prenatal diagnosis, diabetes management in pregnancy, and genetic counseling services. This role will be responsible for assisting with chart preparation, record requests, blood draws, the completion of lab forms, organize and stock exam rooms, schedule follow up appointments for patients, evaluate basic lab results, and assist the physicians with in-office procedures.  The University of Colorado offers a highly competitive compensation, retirement, and benefits package. 

Essential Duties

  • Performs appropriate basic and/or routine regular delegated medical functions as directed and within appropriate scope of practice as inferred by knowledge, skill level, and CU clinic guidelines.
  • Accurately rooms patients, obtains & records vital signs, patient history, and reason for seeking care.
  • Accurately processes and records telephone messages in patient medical record and according to policy. Accurately documents all care provided and procedures performed within the patient’s medical record.
  • Accurately records patient charges for medications, supplies, equipment, labs, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, such as assisting with orienting/training new employees, transporting equipment or patients, stocking shelves, ordering supplies, maintaining departmental logs, answering telephones, taking messages, checking in and/or out patients, and scheduling patient appointments.
  • Assists the providers with patient tasks pertinent to their ongoing care:
    • Calling out normal laboratory reports after provider review.
    • Collects lab specimens i.e., blood.
    • Laboratory or procedural preparations.
  • Accurately prepares and/or coordinates outgoing referrals as directed by the provider. Assists in preparing prescription refills for providers and according to policy. 
  • Adheres to employer work practices, policies, and procedures, including office and state protocols.
  • Participates in practice’s process and performance improvement activities and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Entry Level:

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3+ months of experience as a CNA, MA, PCT, EMT or the completion of accredited CMA program and pass the National Medical Assistant Certification Exam (i.e., AAMA or NCCT).

Intermediate Level:

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of Health Care experience as a CNA, MA, PCT, or EMT.

Substitution: A combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Conditions of Employment

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross healthcare provider-level CPR certification OR be willing, able, and eligible to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Complies with applicable University of Colorado School of Medicine mandatory education and training.
  • Must be able to work in-person.
  • Must be willing to travel to alternate locations (mileage provided).

Salary and Benefits

The starting rate (or hiring rate) for this position begins at:

  • Certified Medical Assistant I: $20- $24 per hour.
  • Certified Medical Assistant II: $21- $26 per hour.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
