Responsibilities*

Assist in the delivery of direct patient care, supporting providers in a complex, multiple physicians’ practice in an adult Urology & OB-GYN ambulatory care setting within Michigan Medicine’s Chelsea Multispecialty ACU and other locations as assigned for training and coverage including Chelsea/Dexter, SW Ann Arbor and N Central. Function as part of a team to cooperatively manage patient flow, perform routine laboratory support services; perform and assist in urological and gynecological procedures; maintain equipment; order and stock supplies; maintain orderly clinic environment; provide direct patient care as assigned by the Registered Nurse/and or Provider.  Use electronic medical record (EMR), MiChart, to complete patient intake, enter point of care orders, enter point of care results, etc.

  • Perform patient intake including taking patient vitals and recording the following in our electronic medical record: chief complaint, vitals, patient history: including medical, surgical, family, social (specifically including smoking history, packs per day, etc.) menses status (when applicable), medication reconciliation, allergies, and entry of point of care testing orders as assigned.
  • Obtain medication prior authorizations.
  • Enter point of care testing results into MiChart via Clinitek or manual entry.
  • Provide clinic assistance by drawing blood, preparing specimens, and assisting patients.
  • Specimen processing, bench lab tests and quality control monitoring, and immunization/medication administration.
  • Prepare examination rooms, set up and assist in urological/gynecological procedures i.e., Cystoscopies, Prostate Biopsies, Penile dopplers, Cystometrograms, Cystograms, Bladder Irrigation, PTNS, Vasectomy, Botox, etc.
  • Perform urological/gynecological procedures i.e., Uroflow, Pressure Flows, Bladder Scanning, Urinalysis, etc.
  • Provides routine but complex instructions for patient procedures and treatments, as delegated by providers and nurses.
  • Patient follow-up for normal and low complexity test results as directed by provider.
  • Maintain, order, and assemble equipment, as necessary.
  • Order clinic equipment and supplies, including medications.
  • Patient instruction for durable medical equipment and test preparation (e.g., colonoscopy test prep, MDI/Spacers).
  • Process prescription renewals as directed by a provider or RN.
  • Medication administration per delegation guidelines or order for oral meds and injections. (acetaminophen/motrin, immunizations, Depo-Provera, Vitamin B12, PPD).
  • Chronic pain management tasks per protocol (e.g., MAPS report, generating drug screening lab requisitions).
  • Maintain and stock supplies in treatment rooms and exam rooms.
  • Prepare and prep patients for procedures.
  • Escort patients.
  • Maintain POC lab.
  • Perform check-in and check-out duties, as necessary, including demographic and insurance verification, scheduling, and collecting payments.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
  • Functional supervision received from Medical Assistant Senior, MA Supervisor.
  • Administrative management received from ACU Administrative Manager.

Required Qualifications*
  • We do require that you have a high school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program or equivalent combination of education and 1-3 years of experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team setting is needed for success in this role
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Must have history of excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Demonstrated abilities to efficiently manage time and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Competence in computer usage, telephone etiquette, participate in team and staff meetings, and follow clinic guidelines and protocols.
  • You will be required to do some moderate standing and walking, as well as lift, position, push, and/or transfer patients.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Certification as an MA.
  • Urology/OB-GYN experience preferred.
  • Experience working within a large, complex health care setting.
  • Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

Work Schedule

The facility is open 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday-Friday. We are flexible in scheduling, and request that you are also flexible in working various shifts.
