Position Purpose
The graduate assistant will assist in all phases of the athletic communications office, including serving as primary media contact for select sports as assigned by the director. Responsibilities include: layout and design of record books; write, edit and distribute press releases and game notes; game-day operations; maintaining and updating the UCM Athletic website; arranging and taking team/individual and action photography; coordinating and overseeing interviews with student-athletes and coaches; record and distribute appropriate game statistics at home events; nominations for weekly and/or yearly conference and national awards; supervise student-workers and inters/support staff; some marketing/promotion duties as well, and other duties as assigned by the director.
Education & Formal Training Bachelor's degree (Specify field(s) of study below)

• A bachelor degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or a related field
• Knowledgeable in a wide array of sports
• Working knowledge of desktop publishing tools (Adobe InDesign and Photoshop)
• Candidates with experience with in-game statistical software (NCAA Live Stats, StatCrew,
Presto Sports) preferred
• Strong written and verbal skills
• Photography experience preferred
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
• Desire to work in collegiate athletics department
• One year experience in an Athletics Media Relations/Communications office preferred
• Chosen candidate must apply for admission to Graduate School at UCM and be accepted into
their chosen program of study.

Experience
Preference will be given to applicants that have a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop & InDesign) and Stat Crew programs.

Scholarship: Students filling a Graduate Assistantship (GA) position are
eligible to receive a graduate tuition waiver, a graduate non-resident
tuition waiver (if applicable), and a graduate mandatory fees waiver. The
scholarships are in the form of a waiver and the funds are not deposited
into the student’s personal account. Instead, the student’s bill is reduced
by the amount of the scholarship awarded. If the maximum amount of the
scholarship is not used, the remainder is not paid to the student in any
form and unused scholarship money cannot be carried over to another
semester. The scholarship is applied to graduate level courses only;
courses taken for undergraduate credit are not eligible to be covered by
the GA scholarship. The non-resident fee scholarship only applies to
classes taken on the UCM Warrensburg campus. The maximum scholarship
amounts are based on the size of assistantship held. For a full (20 hour
per week) assistantship, the scholarship covers tuition costs up to $3,795.00 (+$3,265.00 for non-residents) and mandatory fees up to $660.00
of graduate coursework per semester. Graduate assistantship positions less
than full will be prorated accordingly.
