Location: Columbia, Missouri 
Shift:  Monday – Friday, 7am to 3:30pm 
Department: Plant Engineering
Salary Range: $23.07 - $31.50 (Pay based on experience) 


Bid Period:  2/2/24 to 2/9/24

Essential Functions: 

  • Install, repair, and maintain water, air, vacuum, gas, hot water, distilled water, acid, and chemical distribution lines and systems, storm and sanitary waste lines and systems, steam and condensate return distribution lines and systems, ranging from standard systems to specialized installations. 
  • Cut, thread, and join pipe; operate all necessary tools for the trade.  May perform soldering, lead wiping, acetylene, and electric cutting and welding.  Insulate and paint lines and equipment as required.  Drill holes in walls, floors, and ceilings.  Help handle material and equipment related to job.  May be required to inspect, test, service, and maintain water softening equipment. 
  • Clean, maintain, safely operate and properly store all tools and equipment. 
  • May perform or assist in performance of any of the following: preparation of cost estimates, preparation of material orders, maintenance of records, and preparation of reports. 
  • Observe and enforce all safety requirements related to equipment operation. 
  • Due to necessary fluctuations of workloads in the skill area, an incumbent in this class may be required, on an occasional basis and according to need, to perform duties outside his/her trade area.  Normal safety requirements, scheduling and the most efficient use of staff and equipment are taken into consideration in such assignments. 
  • May be required to operate a backhoe and other construction equipment.

    Qualifications

     

    Required Qualifications: 

    • High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary. 
    • Five  years actual work experience and training, including the equivalent of apprenticeship or vocational training, in the trade. 
    • Ability to read blueprints, plans, drawings, and plumbing diagrams. 
    • Skill in maintenance and use of tools, equipment and materials of applicable trade. 
    • A person working in this classification will  need on a daily basis, to be able to: Grasp, lift, maneuver, rotate, and otherwise use small to large trades tools and equipment; Grasp, lift, carry, and set down heavy (50-80 lbs) objects; Grasp, turn, twist, pull, push, lift, and otherwise move equipment, controls, parts, etc.; Visually assess maintenance, construction and repair needs; Climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding. 
    • A valid driver’s license may be required.

This position is very active and may require ambulating, remaining in a stationary position and positioning self to reach and/or move objects above the shoulders and below the knees.
