Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor

Department of University Housing

 

The Department of University Housing within the Division of Student Life invites applications for the position of Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor.

 

Our mission is to provide a defining experience for students through programs and amenities that facilitate individual learning and development, connecting you with innovative leadership opportunities and positive learning experiences. The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor coordinates and manages daily operations of the University Housing A/C and Paint Shops as well as performs regular facilities assessments/inspections.

 

The Position: This position’s project oversight includes performing in-depth assessments of mechanical systems, including building-wide HVAC systems and stand-alone units, plumbing systems, piping drain systems, chilled water supply and return systems, and steam supply and return systems.  The position will develop detailed reports of inspection findings including spreadsheets and charts and graphs and develop and initiate corrective actions for deficiencies noted.

 

This position’s personnel oversight includes supervising and providing day-to-day oversight of employee work including, but not limited to: HVAC system repairs and general mechanical repairs, manage personnel, including training, performance evaluations, personnel disciplinary actions and recommendations. This position will also conduct interviews of prospective applicants and makes recommendations on hiring.

 

Responsibilities:

 

·         Performs in depth building assessments of all mechanical systems

·         Develops detailed reports of assessment findings

·         Initiates corrective actions of deficiencies found

·         Performs follow-up inspections

·         Responds to current facilities issues

·         Supervises employee’s daily tasks

·         Conducts employee training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions

·         Conducts interviews of prospective applicants

·         Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs

Qualifications

 

What We Require

Education: Associate’s Degree in an engineering or construction technologies related field

 

Experience: Five years of experience in maintenance or construction with an emphasis on technical report writing with at least two years of supervision experience.  OR Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, construction technologies or related field. Three years of experience in maintenance or construction with emphasis on technical report writing with at least two years of supervision experience. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·         Thorough knowledge of modern construction practices and standards, and various construction maintenance trades including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical

·         Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; Strong organizational skills

·         Ability to follow instructions

·         Knowledge of effective preventative maintenance program concepts

·         Must possess strong computer skills

·         Ability to develop detailed reports including spreadsheets, charts, and graphs

·         Ability to work within tight deadlines and schedules

·         Ability to work with both a diverse customer and employee base

·         Ability to lead a diverse group of employees

·         Ability to wear protective gear

·         Ability to use basic and specialized tools and equipment

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or construction technologies related field

 

Salary: The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and other qualifications and is accompanied by a standard university benefits package. This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track staff position.
