The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at CSU offers a curriculum that integrates exceptional classroom learning and in-depth engineering practice for an unparalleled educational experience. Made up of 44 faculty members, 12 staff members, 1,000 undergraduate students, and 125 graduate students, ME is one of the largest departments on CSU’s campus. State-of-the-art labs provide unmatched, hands-on experience to help undergraduate students conceptualize industry environments, and $11M in annual research funding provide groundbreaking opportunities focusing on health, materials, and energy, for graduate students to enhance their educational concentrations. Award-winning faculty offer industry and academic perspective, and equip each graduate with the tools needed to obtain leading positions in advanced technology fields. The Mechanical Engineering program at CSU includes majors in both Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering-Mechanical Engineering; both curriculum combine classroom learning with engineering practice. Position Summary
With almost 1,200 undergraduate students, the Department of Mechanical Engineering is the third largest major at Colorado State University. In support of this growth, the Department invites applications for three full-time Non-Tenure Track Faculty (NTTF) members to teach first-year Mechanical Engineering courses (MECH 103 and MECH 105) and second-year Mechanical Engineering design courses (MECH 201 and MECH 202).
Individuals selected for these positions will be assigned one of six NTTF working titles based on education and experience. Specifically, selected individuals who have an MS will have a working title of Instructor, Senior Instructor, or Master Instructor; selected individuals who have a PhD will have a working title of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. Within these two working titles, selected individuals who have > 5 years of experience will have a working title of Senior Instructor or Associate Professor; selected persons who have > 10 years of experience will have a working title of Master Instructor or [Full] Professor. The ME Department would like these positions to start in August 2023.
This position supports the educational mission of the Department and its commitment to provide high-quality educational opportunities in Engineering Design. The position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Department Head on a one-year renewable contract, pending successful performance and available funding. The Instructor / Professor may be given responsibility for one or more undergraduate laboratories; responsible for the quality, efficacy and learning outcomes of experiments, and modification and change consistent with the Department’s goals. Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to develop and teach new courses consistent with the academic goals of the Department and its students.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Completed MS (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field by the desired start date;
  • Four years of industry engineering experience or four years of experience teaching undergraduate Mechanical Engineering courses (or similar);
  • Excellent management, communication, mentoring, and organizational skills; and
  • Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in Engineering.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Completed PhD (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field by the desired start date;
  • Experience in Aerospace Engineering or Advanced Manufacturing;
  • Experience teaching the specific courses listed in the Position Summary in an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering (or closely related) program; and
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
