Job Description

Reporting to the Grounds Operations Supervisor, the Equipment Repair Technician is responsible for performing all repair work on Grounds Department vehicles, heavy equipment, and mowing machines. The incumbent schedules necessary work through the University Motor Pool, outside vendors, or VDOT. They will assist the Senior Equipment Repair Technician in ordering and maintaining parts, and supply room for the routine maintenance of all Facilities vehicles, heavy equipment, and mowing machines. They will additionally maintain vehicle/equipment repair records on computer.


Required Qualifications


• Experience performing mechanical and hydraulic systems repairs to a variety of vehicles, equipment
and hydraulic systems such as heavy trucks, heavy equipment, snow removal attachments, and mowing machines.

• Previous experience repairing both gasoline and diesel engines.
• Possess a Virginia State Inspection License
• Previous experience using various welding techniques and equipment such as Acetylene, Electric, MIG welders and Plasma cutting tools.
• Ability to pay attention to detail and multitask in a fast-paced work environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively, have good team work skills, and be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace.


Preferred Qualifications


• Experience performing mechanical and hydraulic repairs to Toro, eXmark, Still, Echo, Robyn, and other
commercial mowing equipment| Experience performing mechanical and hydraulic repairs to backhoes, skid steers, tractors, rubber-tire loaders, and track loaders.

• ASE Certified
• Knowledge and experience of preparing for and spray painting of vehicles and equipment.

$46,000 - $52,000

• Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds, or more with assistance and work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling.
• This position is designated as ""Emergency Personnel"" and the employee must be available to work during emergency situations (including inclement weather, callbacks, etc.) as directed by the supervisor or lead.
• May be required to work extended shifts, additional hours and overtime to meet the needs of the department.
• Must have a criminal background check.
• Must have an acceptable and safe driving record.
• Must have a driver's license check.
• Alternate work schedule: Working hours are from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, but may vary as needed for the business operations.
• This position is designated as ""Emergency Personnel"" and the employee must be available to work during emergency situations (including inclement weather, callbacks, etc.) as directed by the supervisor or lead.
• May be required to work extended shifts, additional hours and overtime to meet the needs of the department.
• Must wear employer-provided uniforms as instructed by supervisor or lead.
• Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
