Job Summary:

Manages the food safety Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan of the Meat Science & Animal Biologics Discovery (MSABD) USDA-inspected plant, ensures all products meet USDA regulatory requirements and food safety/quality standards, performs necessary microbiological testing of the production spaces and product, enforces food safety practices and plant GMPs, assists in student training, and helps oversee/manage plant operations. Participate in teaching and extension programs/demos. Leadership and management responsibilities for MSABD team.


Responsibilities:
Provides technical expertise to fundamental and/or applied scientific research under the direction of senior research personnel or faculty.
  • 10% Collects and analyzes basic research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
  • 10% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities and assists with publications
  • 25% Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area
  • 10% Assists with the development of research methodologies and procedures
  • 20% Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
  • 5% Assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • 10% Manages food safety HACCP Plan for MSABD USDA inspected plant
  • 10% Perform microbiological testing of processing plant and products; maintain records of results

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree
Animal Science/Meat Science or related field
Preferred
Master's Degree
Animal Science/Meat Science or related field


Qualifications:

-Meat industry experience preferred
-1 year of prior experience with large animal handling and working in Animal Science field preferred.
-Strong organizational, management, and office skills.
-Demonstrated experience handling, compiling, and organizing data in a timeline manner.
-Experience with databases and spreadsheets.
-Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $60,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information:

Schedule: This position will be scheduled to work 40 hours per week with the intended schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:45am - 4:30pm. Hours will be flexible in order to ensure operational needs are met, and some weekend work may be required.
